We have an Ifor 510 and are taking a friends shetland on loan as a companion. Now... obviously the breaching bars are going to be much too high to A) keep her in the partition or B) stop her flying forward or injuring herself.

We were thinking of taking all the partitions out and cross tying her facing the back of the trailer with a big haynet tied to keep her facing that way.

How would you recommend travelling her safely and *cough* legally *cough* to her new destination? (it's too far for her little legs to walk). I know she's been in cars, vans, lorry cabs etc before because it's safer than in a big lorry.

Help!!! :D lol.

Personally, I would travel her loose, (you have top doors presumably?) they get themselves where they feel most comfortable that way, and it is never standing looking straight ahead as they have to when they are tied up. ;)

The pony will probably stand at an angle and jam her butt against the front to brace herself.

Agree totally with Enfys.

I always do this with mine.

i've just recently transported a smallie, long distance, successfully:D
we travelled her loose and filled the box with straw and secured a hay bale front and back so she had a buffer, but also something she could munch on.

She ended up finding her own comfortable angle to stand at and as she's so low and couldn't see out i think she reckoned she spend the night in a 'wobbly' stable and just got let out again in the morning ;) bless

Thanks. Had the suggestion of popping bales in on another forum which sounds like a plan.
Never thought the actual logistics would be quite so... complex!

Take a friends 10.2 stallion to shows, we put a bale in front of him and tie him on each side, he is fine, good as gold

:) But it isn't at all.

Remove partitions.
Bed down with something.
Insert pony - so easy, really :)

I don't even use the ramps for my small ponies, they just hop in and out of the jockey door.

^^ I meant in just making sure she doesn't get tipped over or put in any danger at any point.
It was funny we were coming up with all sorts of ideas between us and the owner and making all of them complicated. THIS is why I come on forums. I over fink fings. ;)

Fanks guys. :D

as others have said!

No bales required!

Just put some shavings down
remove all partitions
put hay on floor front and back
load shetland
ramp up
unclip lead rope leave headcollar on (only legal requirement)
out the jockey door (you not the shetland)
close up and off you go!

Simples really!

I normally just travel loose with a couple of hay bales at the front. Done this a few timed and they have always travelled well.
