Hi All... been signed up for ages but don't post very often. So here goes...

I was just wondering how you would recomend I go about transporting a weanling? I don't have transport so it will be a case of hiring... the journey is about an hour...

Would you recomend bandaging legs etc?

Said filly will be halter broken and has been (fairly) well handled.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mine came over from Wales to Irleand via Rosslare(!) and the journey took 2 days. He had no bandages or anything and was fine when he arrived

I travelled mine without boots or bandages....calm is better...if you are tying her up, do use a leather headcollar.

Agree totally with your theory and will use nothing but a leather headcollar (the safety freak in me!)

Thanks for you replies so far... any more?

Hi, I travelled my weanling only this week for the first time, we travelled her in a trailer totally loose with all the partitions taken out and all doors shut, with lots of bedding, no boots, bandages or headcollar. she was absolutly fine and even went back in after she hd her operation!

Interesting... Thanks for the replies.

I was thinking about traveling her loose but wasn't sure - She's 14hh at the moment so already quite a big girl... I just want her home in one piece!... decisions decisions... still a little time to go so I think We'll just play it by ear as to how halter broken she is nearer the time... many thanks

Depending upon the age of the weanling depends how the transporter can transport her.

You would be best having an individual load and to travel her loose in a foal box-all partitions removed and if you choose a good transporter they will be able to tell you all about this.

All she needs is a head collar on and that's it.

My foal is 7 months old (although not yet weaned)

I travel her loose with no headcollar in a 2 horse lorry- she copes just fine.
If using a trailer I would take everything out of it. You may even want to bank it up with straw - I'm sure that would be fine.

im transporting mine on sunday she has travelled with mum before though !!

will be travelling with no partitions, no boots bandages or headcollers and not tied up xx
