so took middle partition out and got 2 full breast bars .hoping he will travel better like that anybody else had this problem ? have always used travel boots but now that they have been trashed im thinking of something a bit more likely to stay on with gamgee underneath what do you use or any experience ?

I never use travel boots. They dont fit snugly enough and with a bad traveller they make things worse.

I always use bandages. Or snug turnout socks or brushing boots and over reach boots for young horses.

My mare will travel really badly if she is wearing travel boots, i think that they hinder her as they can slip, so i now always use bandages and have not had a problem since (touch wood).

I hate travel boots and always bandage my horses. Sometimes though depending on what I am doing and how long they will be travelling I only put brushing boots and over reach boots on. Never had one cut or injure itself. The main problem with my mare is that she leans on her bottom and usually ends up with a sore patch there!

Its not really the age, its the travelling experience. So if your horse hasnt travelled much turnout socks would be a good idea as they offer protection with uch less chance of slipping and upsetting the horse.

I always think travelling boots are like wearing a pair of wellies 3 sizes too big!

The Welsh Cob doesn't travel well in a trailer, so if I HAVE to put travel him in one I use brushing boots, over reach boots and knee boots...however in a lorry he is fine with travel boots...stupid welsh man!!

am hoping to have flat lesson next friday so will let you kno how i get on ! he is n irish pony well 14.3 imported as youngster n hunted so goes fab in lorry as long as in middle partition with no solid walls around so hoping no partition will work
thank you for you answers will give opyions ago what do you thing about the fitted gamgee??

I used to travel my mare in brushing boots and over reach boots all round. I would use bandages over travel boots though with a bad traveller.
It amazes me how many horses wont or dont like travelling in a trailer, my boy is the same. Got to the point wher he would load but wouldnt stay in one. We tried the partition out too but Im afraid he was the same. He travels in a wagon brilliantly.

my boy travels fine but will only load in brushing boots and over reach boots, not travel boots! he travels fine if you swap them once on the lorry but then refuses to load next time!! so its just brushing boots and over reach boots for him!
