i have posted this in new lounge but thought it should be in here......
......i dont travel my horse very often, but when i have ive used a friends travel boots although he walks a bit funny in them (as some horse do). However, my horse has a long journey coming up and im wondering if bandages would be better but im worried that they wont offer the same protection that boots will. Can anyone offer advice?

i always use boots - much quicker when you have alot travelling.
i often find the young ones will walk funnily at first, but let them just get used to it in the stable (wheres theres no danger of them attacking you !!) and they usually soon get the idea and dont mind them at all.
make sure he gets used to them before the journey, and he should be fine.

boots will be better for you, if they slip thay are easily adjusted unlike bandages, the only time i use bandages now is under the boots when going to a show as they keep the legs clean.

I would not bandage for a long journey because the potential damage that it could cause to their legs. Standing for a long period of time causes the legs to swell, thus tightening the bandages which can cause serious injury.

I would either use the stiff type of travel boot (Mark Todd style) or leave the legs bare. Much safer than bandages.

I do bandage for a short journey -which I would class as beintg up to a couple of hours.

I never travel any of my horses in anything; mind you they are travelled loose over here.

Back in England I used boots for short journeys but would never use them for long journeys due to over-heating or slipping...too much risk involved.

When I flew my pony out here the shipping company advised not to bandage her for the flight.
