I am having real problems travelling my mare who insists on ripping her boots off while she is in the trailer. She used to travel very well with boots on although we always have to travel her on the left as she can't balance on the right side. I have also tried travelling her with bandages but she doesn't seem to like these either and falls about a great deal - I presume trying to figure out how to get them off!! She can on occasions get very wound up and will be dripping with sweat even after a ten minute journey whilst other times she stands so quietly you wouldn't know she was there! I do not want to travel her without boots as she can loose her balance and I don't want her to get injured! Does anyone have any ideas, they would be most welcome.

do you stable her?
if you do why not bandage her up for 1/2 an hour a day in there, she will slowly start to get used to the feel of them in a more relaxing environment.
Also what type of horse is she? is she heavy with feathers? if she is then it may be because she really does find it uncomfortable and gets too hot. we wouldn't and couldn't travel our cob with boots until we started to clip her out on her legs.

i had the same problem with mine! he hates having any type of travel boots on his back legs and he constantly kicks and stamps! i have tried all sorts banages, over reachboots with brushing boots but he hates them all so i just went back to his original mark todd boots and even if for the first couple of minutes he stamps he does stop and he is slowly getting better! i think it just takes time!

So good to know other people have had this problem! She is a 14.1 cremello and is light with no feathers. She travels both alsone and with company and I get the same problems all the time. She is fine with boots while I am riding and she used to be fine with travel boots, never stamped at all! I have tried leaving her in her stable for a while with the boots on and she is fine only seems to be as soon as we get into the trailer. I do want to keep trying but its not nice travelling her when she is falling about all over the place trying to be houdini! Just seems very strange I never used to have a problem and it has all of a sudden started. I will be travelling her tonight so might just try brushing boots by themselves to see if that helps but please continue sending me suggestions all I can do is try!

Gave up with rear travel boots - she hated them and made the loading issue even worse - went onto ebay and bought some good old fashioned hock boots - she travels fine in these.

Just as an experiment particularly as ok in the stable can you take the partition out of the trailer and travel just with a brest bar? She may be better with more room.

I could give this a bash although I think due to her bad balance this could be a problem! I think hock boots are looking attractive at the moment though!!

I will give it a bash tonight, we wont be travelling far so probably the best time to try! Hopefully with a bit of trial and error I will get this sorted. Thanks for everyones help!
