Hi everyone,
Just a quick question- what travel boots do everyone use that are tough and strong. I currently have weatherbeeta ones and i am forever sewing them up! I am also looking to buy a new riding hat as mine has become quite worn, what do people think are the best brand but won't cost a fortune?
All help and advice appreciated,
Sarah.

I had my Mark Todd ones for 8+ years until I accidentally forgot to put them in their bag and the mice got to them :(

Still looked in great condition and could easily brush dirt/poo/mud off them.

My late gelding had some Horseware Amigo travel boots which I really liked. He was an angel to travel so didn't really "test" them, but he wore them constantly for the 7 years I owned him and they never deteriorated in looks or quality. They fitted him really well, and I occasionally leant them to a friend & went on to use them on my loan horse (who certainly wasn't as kind to them!) and they did seem to fit most shapes and sizes. Didn't fall down either. I have bought my mare some premier equine travel boots which seem to be very good quality, though sadly haven't been able to travel her in them anywhere yet :(
Hat-wise, I think it's always best to go to a saddlery and try a few on just to see which types fit you best - as they aren't all designed around the same head shape, so what suits one person won't suit another x

Another vote for Mark Todd travel boots. Had mine for 12 years and still going strong. Best of all is that they only have three wide straps so there is no fighting with straps stuck to each other whist putting them on, especially useful when horse is dancing around, and they don't seem to move.

Has anyone got the Premier Equine ones? What are they like? My friend RAVES about them, but she raves about the rugs as well and I've got 2 or 3 of those and whilst they're decent rugs...nice enough but really not all that.

Whats the sizing like? I'm a bit dubious about the 14.2 - 16.2 guideline on the medium, as I just cant see the same boot fitting my little pony and my big horse :/

Another vote for the mark Todd travel boots, really hard wearing great boot!

I just got a samshield hat for my Xmas :D I love it, but pricey, my last hat was kep which I also loved and I have my trusty gpa hat that I ride in at home which is also a nice comfy hat!

I have a set of Amigo and a set of Masta travel boots - the Amigo ones are 100% better quality than the Mastas, but don't match, so I am at a loss...

I use Champion Ventair hats, because they fit my odd shaped head. I always used plain C&O jockey skulls bought for £30 each til I had a horrendous accident where I spent 5 days in hospital getting brain scans... so now I spend on my hat, and actually replace it every 4 years/fall on head, which is eye watering but worth it. Have tried the Gatehouse and a few other good hat types, but the Champion fitted best, so now I replace them online and get them cheaper...

The best hat is the one that fits your head :)

I like all sorts, but it seems that only Charles Owen hats fit me. Saves time when buying :)

As someone else said, go to a reputable saddler and try on a few different makes and styles, bearing in mind what sort of riding you'll be doing.

No suggestions for travel boots mine travels in brushing boots, knee boots and over reach boots. But for hats the crucial thing is fit. Go somewhere with lots of choice like one of the big shows and try on as many makes as possible before deciding. You will probably find only a couple of brands fit without extra padding, choose from these.

For me it is champion or Gatehouse. To get a charles owen to fit I have to go up two sizes snx pad it out. That is not safe and I was unimpressed with boots shop that suggested it was acceptable.

definately mark todd travel boots !. size wise I found they came up big, my 16.3 admitted had short legs but was in the cob size ones after the full size were too long , and the cob size ones were massive on my 13.2 and nearly came up to his armpits !

we use amigo travel boots for ours. They're out at shows every two weeks or so and the boots have lasted really well. They wash well too.

I absolutely love my Kep but it wasn't cheap. Currently have a champion skull cap for at home - think it was about £100. Used to have a Charles Owen skull that was really comfy and that wasn't too expensive either.

Can't help with the travel boots as I don't use them but I just got a new gatehouse RXC1 for Christmas which is a high safety standard, nice and comfy, it also has a removable washable liner
