Hi,
I need some ideas please. My boy loads and generally travels well, but sits on the back bar!
He has always done this but as he has got wider ( muscle and fit now) he started to stamp in the box. So I got a bigger trailer, but he still does it help!
1 re travel
2 how to stop the rub. Has 2 tail bandages and a paddeded guard!

Thanks in advance

Your horse is not rubbing his tail he is bracing himself, maybe you are driving too fast it seems alot worse in the back.
Perhaps he is a bad traveller if this is the case you have to travel very slowly consider taking out partitions or anything that will make your horse more comfortable, if he is still rubbing with lots of protection he is bracing alot, so even if you do not think you are travelling fast, it may be too fast for him.

Are you able to travel him facing backwards - I find they travel so much better that way. Also try a bale of straw spread on the floor - they get a better grip and travel more calmly.

Taking out the centre partition might help as he can then position himself diagonally and spread out his legs more. Obviously you will then need to cross-tie him, and use full width breast and breach bars.

My horse does this when he is driven too fast, when travelling in trailers towed by other people. When I drive him he is fine.

Or if you have a partition in 2 halves, just take out the back section - then you still have the breast bars. I travel mine like this and he's perfectly happy. I used to have one who would lean on his tail no matter how slow you went, I used a tail bandage then a big thick chunk of gamgee then another bandage - seemed to help.
