My horse has developed a problem with travelling. He has always been good but just recently he is getting worse to travel . He loads fine and will stand quietly when on the motorway and will stand on the lorry all day but the minute we have to stop and start or the roads are a bit bumpy he goes beserk, weaving, leaping and bucking. Its awful. He is twice as bad if we are on a narrow lane with trees near his face. He doesn't sweat but it is not doing me or him any good.
The lorry partions are quiet noisy on the bumpy roads so not sure whether ear plugs might help?
The lorry is an 18 tonne and he used to travel in a 7.5 tonne, I wonder weather he has too much room as in the old lorry there was no room to move forward to buck but in this one he can- maybe I could put a breast bar on the partion stop him moving forward.
Any ideas?

Is he travelled with another else? This may help lots until he gets his confidence back then start little journeys on his own and then gradually just take him everywhere on his own.

I had a horse that sound similar to yours and we actually put shavings in the lorry and he was fine, I don't know what it did but he wouldn't travel well without the shavings.

Thankyou. He travelled better with company but still was manic if the trees were close. He has shavings down as well. I might put more down next time.
I was wondering if ear plugs and a ear veil might help to block out noise.
