Ok so this might be a odd question so bare with me!!

When my lad rubs the point of his hip. It goes sore to touch, then after afew days the bits of skin come up though the hair. Not nice, and leaves him slighly bald!

He has done this a few times when i first got him, and again the other week. (because trainer put him in too small of a space

)I have since figured out that if he had a fairly thick rug on he's fine and it doesnt rub. This is fine in winter, but in summer he has to have thickish rugs on, then we take them off as soon as we arrive.

Do you think we could stitch something into a thin rug to stop it? Does anyone else have this problem.

Thanks.

I used to have a horse that lent on its tail and would rub it raw everytime even with tail bandages etc. I tried rugs, but she got too hot and I found the best thing to do was to hang a haynet up behind her and she lent into that and never bled again.

So you could try hanging a small haynet off the partition it is sort of like what they use with boats when mooring them against a slipway.

Ooo never that idea never crossed my mind! I would have padded partitions but i only just got the lorry, and as he hadnt done it for so long didnt bother with them. Might just try that, however might wind him up once he's finished the nets hes scoffing at the front!!

Foxlea horsebits (think that's the name ) sell the padding for the partitions and you simply screw them on.
Or you could glue some foam onto where the horse leans for now.
The other alternative is stick the foam or sheepskin just inside the cooler you use for summer.

I bought my horse the Comfort Zone travel rug. This has padding on the hips, shoulders and tail. I got it from 4dobbin.com and you put it over top of rugs in winter or by itself in summer. Would highly recommend!

I remember padding a horses tail bandage out with a piece of gamgee (exercise gamgee size) when he rubbed the hell out of his tail.

If I were you, Id probably get an old sweat / cotton sheet and sew some gamgee material on the hip bits!
