I collected another rehomed dog yesterday. He's gorgeous, a JRT cross. Settled in very quickly and very well BUT
travelling home and when I took him to the vet today he was travel sick. Has anyone any experience of this? Anything I can do?
He travels on the back seat in a crate. Dare not travel him the back with the other 3 yet until they have sorted pecking order etc.

I expect it is nerves at the moment and presumably you don't know how much he has travelled before. Try to take him a short way every day with something fun happening at the destination. Some people recommend covering the crate so they cant see outside movement but my dogs prefer to look out. You can get medication from the vets for a long journey. Keep trying, even really bad travellers can get over it. You can find an old thread on here with lots of advice. Good luck.

At the vets where I work Cerenia is used for travel sickness - it is VERY expensive though. I have always used Stugeron for travel sick dogs and it stops the problem almost immediately.

Thanks for the replies. He hasn't travelled much before. So far I have tried ginger biscuit, covering the crate, letting him see out. I have found that I can take him a short 5 min journey with just drooling, but any further the we get the whole works. Also tried not feeding.
He had to go back to vet for second inoculation in a couple of weeks so will ask him.

The simplest bit of advice I would share is that now the journey home is over do not exceed a journey more than 5 minutes and then get him out for a walk. He needs short journeys not even long enough for the sickness to manifest until he associates it with a positive...I would hazard a guess he has never travelled in the car before so basically you will be the one to get him over that. Travel him in the crate and line the crate with cardboard or newspaper as it's a good anti static and try the usual peppermint or ginger capsules a good hour before travel and always on an empty stomach.

I started 3 weeks ago putting her in the car and just driving 100yds. I gradually built it up to about one quarter of a mile and she was fine. Then a couple of days ago I drove about half a mile. Her eyes started watering and she was licking her lips. I stopped and got out to give her a walk and she was sick. She was facing front, the window was wide open and she could see where she was going. I drove as steadily as I could. I then put her back in the car and came home and she was sick when I got home. That's why I thought I would try the childs travel sickness pills BUT if it makes her sleepy then there is no point if I want to take her in the car to go somewhere to have a walk!

UPDATE. Taggle now travels happily with no sickness. Did it by short journeys about 5 mins followed by a fun walk or activity. The longest he has done has been 1 hour. He now has vet bed in his travel crate instead of newspaper.
He's settled in so well.

Glad you've sorted it. This reminds me of horrendous long journeys as a child. Within two miles, dog would be sick then me, then my brother. This went on for 250 miles.
