Would you travel two horses that have never met each other before together in a 2-horse horse box?

So far I've had one yes and two no's and am really not sure what to do, instinct would tell me not to just in case there is a ruckus in the box but I wonder am I worrying overly much... again?

I wouldn't hesitate to do it and often have done so either helping out friends by giving them a lift or when daughter was in pony club where we always helped out those without transport by picking up and dropping off for shows/rallies. Never had a problem!

Unless it's a breeding stallion and a mare in season you'll be fine :tongue3:

Sorry should have said it's going to be 2 geldings, my lad and his new companion oldie :) Still to find out where he is for traveling costs purposes but I know now that he is a gelding :)

In that case an even more definite yes as they can travel together and then unload and both be in their new home already knowing each other

Yes tie them up short enough that they can't bite each other and all should be well. Poor travellers often do better with another horse alongside, even if it is a 'stranger'.

Yes definatly better together , I often take one from home when I am picking up a young horse if it's young and inexperianced.

Yes, have done this, though big lad only interested in hay net!!! Few sniffs, a squeal or two then all ok. They were best mates by time we unloaded. There will always be an exception though!! Maybe if you worried introduce them out of the box for 5 mins or so.

Thanks folks, saves on travel costs at least :) Would happily have travelled them separately if needed but it's a weight off my mind that it can be done together without them killing each other :D
Still paddock off separately when they arrive at their new field though?

Best to yes with fence between them. You may find they're are absolutely fine after travelling together and you can put them together after a couple of hours. Suck it and see is best option imo.

We took my cob when viewing my son's new pony as I wanted to see how they were out hacking together.

We bought the pony then and there and travelled them home together - a 3 hr journey, with no issues at all. This was in a 3.5t 2 horse lorry.

I gave them nets as a distraction.

Hope it goes smoothly!
