Traveling an unfit horse

Im picking my new horse up Sat am and am a little concerned about the length of time we will be travelling, as he is not very fit.
The journey should be about 2.5 hours, but we'll have the M25 and the M1 contend with, so it could end up taking more 3.5-4 hours. Do you think he will be ok? We will stop regualry to check him and offer him some water.
Should I be worried?
 
He will be fine. Don't stop too often - once will be plenty I imagine.

Absolutely and utterly confused now though. Thought you were getting rid of one becuase you didn't have time for him.....
 
Personally would not worry at all as they are just standing - I picked Nelly out of a field - we loaded her and brought her from Oxfordshire home - 3plus hours and she was not just unfit she was also obese!
 

Well, I do have time, but not the time Archie needs, of that makes sense!!
Arch needs riding hard every day and competing at the weekends, and I cant do that at the mo.
So, my new horse is one that I can leave for a fews days then go for a wonder on. Catch ma drift?

It should be fine I honestly wouldn't worry. Will you be in a box or a trailer?
I travelled Angel for a couple of hours last week and she dosn't do travelling! and she was fine, i planned to stop and check quite a lot but only did once, i could see her tho through the window, but when i did stop she made such a fuss thinking it was time to get off!
 
Grace was completely unfit when I travelled her 3 hours home... I didn't stop because it was only her third journey in her life and we just wanted to keep things as smoothe as possible. It ended up more a 4 hours journey because of a bad accident on the M6!

Well she's always on the look out for a good horse to compete.....
 
Think as long as you provide enough support and protection for the horse's legs it'll be fine (although i know some people don't bother bandaging). if you're with someone else and in a wagon that you can access the back without stopping tehn i'd do that if necessary but to be honest I think you'd be fine. I picked up a friends horse she bought from peterbourough (she's in York) so was a fair drive and it was only about 2 years old, been in a wagon once (herded i I think!). We couldn't get him in to start with, he freaked out about us trying to boot him up so we didn't bother. When we finally got him home he was rather sweated up (poor soul) but then he didn't want to come out of the wagon as he was too scared to! Think he thought it's safe enough in here why would I want to come out to this scary new place! hee hee
 
You will be fine, I wouldn't bandage personlly, and only stop once unless there is a problem, he may not drink so don't worry too much if he doesn't.
 
Spring hadn't been ridden properly for months and had wintered out when I bought her. She was delivered by a transporter and was on the lorry for about 6 hours as he stopped to drop off others and got caught in traffic. She was absolutely fine - just very hungry!! If he has plenty of hay and you offer him water at some point I think he will be fine for that length of time. I would only stop if there is a problem.
 
I really don't see a problem,Highland youngsters travel all the time down from scotland to the south, without stopping loads of times, and they rarely drink in my experience, so I would only stop, if YOU need to!!!!!
