Travelling a horse in bandages

I have to take my horse to the clinic, he loads ok and travel ok but hates having anything on his legs and gets upset, obviously he needs something on, so I was wondering if a bandage applied to all four legs would just help too protect him, I don't want to arrive at the vets looking like an uncaring owner.
 
Bandages all the way. Be sure to use gamgee underneath or you can buy pads instead from the saddlers. There is an art to bandaging so maybe best practice on a horse that is more used to them first.

The main thing to remember is start at the top, go canon bone to tendons and quickly down but slowly up with even pressure if you know what I mean?? Then try to finish so that the velcro is on the outside and pointing towards the tail.

Let your horse get used to them in the stable first. Good luck at the vets.

Ps if you can't get him to stand still then don't worry too much, you could just try knee boots at the end of the day you need to find a balance with a happy traveller as appose to a horse that gets so upset having the bandages on he hurts himself even more.
 
my horse was involved in a rta and had short travel boots on, she escaped from the trailer and gashed both of her hocks, we were very lucky as it didnt go into the joint but if it had she would never be ridden again, vet said it all could have been prevented with long boots so please please either use long travell boots or bandages with gamgee that go over the hocks. maybe get him used to them in the stable first, put them on and leave them on for half an hour, then he wont associate them with traveling either.
 
Thanks for the advice, the trip should take no more than 30 mins, but still more than enough time to be involved in a accident, will put them on in hin stable over the next few days and see how he gets on with them.
 
I'd say if he doesnt like his legs being fiddled with, dont bother, but it's better to be safe than sorry, i'd use bandages with a "GamGee" (basicly padding) with a fairly tight bandage on each leg. Up to you though

PF is coming all the way from Buenos Aires (800km) with nekkid legs. I do usually bandage her if I'm going to be supervising, but I won't be there for this trip and I'm more worried about a bandage slipping/pressing/being put on too tight than her knocking herself.
 
Marnie generally travels to pleasure rides with brushing boots on, but nothing on the way home - mind you, you has got quite a lot of protective feather! She gets too hot and stamps with boots or bandages. That has been in both a trailer and lorry.
