We're (fingers crossed!) buying a youngster and need to travel him back to ours at the end of the month. He's been loaded before but not travelled, and although he's well handled has never worn any boots or similar.

We'll be collecting him in an equitrek trailer, and the journey is about an hour. Should I buy some travelling boots and ask the vendor to get him used to them at home or will he be better without?

Our other horse refuses to wear travelling boots, so I don't even have an old soft pair. However, I do travel her in sport boots, might these be better?

No, he's two. And as I say pretty well handled. Not that keen on the idea of travelling loose in an Equitrek, what do other people think?

So, he ties up happily?

If so, just load him up and tie him up
Without boots
Take a good traveller for company.
And yes, i would travel loose in an Equitrek.

Tie him up, no worries at 2. You should only travel them loose if they're 6months or less. I personally wouldnt take another horse in case they fight, and I also wouldnt put boots on him. For an hour, it wont make any difference.

I started my youngster off loose in an Ifor with plenty of straw but she went in a Equitrek from the age of 2 no problem, tied, no company, no boots. Good luck!

my 13 month old travels happy enough tied up with plenty of hay to munch on but brought a horse from upper asterby farm sale 2 week ago which wasnt handled much and due to owning a very old rice trailer with no top door had to tie him up(if i had other transport would have been left loose with partion etc taken out)-very long 81 miles later and verge of a nervous break down! horse kept rearing and at one point got legs stuck over lead rope and nearly had us vearing across the motor way.
personally i would travel him loose for that period of time unless hes used to travelling tied up
