I am lucky enough to be going to play horseball over in France next month and it will be the first time I have ever travelled one of my horses abroad.

The horse in question is a good traveler and will have been over on the ferry before but I am just after any snippets of wisdom from people that have done this before.

We are installing a 12 volt fan in the horsebox in case we are delayed at the terminal in hot weather. I am not sure what kind of rug/cooler, if any, to put on him. He usually travels without anything on at this time of year.

I am so excited but very nervous. My OH is less keen.... He wanted a holiday in Cornwall away from all the animals...........so we compromised and went to France with a horse (snigger!)

How exciting!

I wouldn't put any rugs or boots on him at all. I'd put something on his tail if he rubs it but not an elasticated bandage as they can get too tight.

The fan will only circulate air, you may need air conditioning if it gets warm for such a long journey.
