I have to collect two competition ponies from France, in July. I will collecting them in jeep and ifor williams 510 trailer. I will be travelling up France to Cherbourg this will take 6 hours.

Then I have two choices and this is what I want advice and thoughts on

Should I take the 14 hour ferry crossing Cherbourg to Rosslare, I can lairage before crossing and again 15 mins after getting off ferry in Rosslare, Then have 3 hour drive home.

OR

Drive 6 hours to Cherbourg, get on ferry to Portmouth 5 hours, then 5 hour drive across UK to Pembroke wait for ferry there and take ferry to Rosslare 3.5 hours and 3 hour drive home ( I will have lairage and stops organised along the way)

Both ponies are seasoned travellers and fit.

Advice thoughts anyone?

PS Please don't till me hire lorry or transporter, as this move is due to family illness and my children and I have to move back to ireland and the two ponies are my kids, so can't leave them behind. Move is hard enough.

Thanks

I have done the trip to and from France many times and would definitely not do the Cherbourg to Rosslare. It's a horribly long time on the boat and horses never are the better for it. I know its a horrible drive across UK for you but easier for the ponies to manage

Can't edit as on phone but given that pony Euros are in Fontainbleau this year in July you may be able to hitch a lift back with Irish ponies which would be a lot less stressful and a lot cheaper!

In my limited experience of that sort of journey, I would have thought the two shorter ferry trips and drive in between would be better on the ponies so I would do that personally but worse on you!
