Hi everyone,
My mare doesn't like wearing travel boots so yesterday I tried travel bandaging for the first time. These are my efforts (if the photos work) and they stayed on well during our little test run yesterday. Are they ok? Should they be higher around her hocks? Should I bandage lower down?

Please be kind, it's my first go, never needed to use anything other than boots before!

Also..what am I doing wrong with pictures? How do I get them to embed in the post?

Thanks for your help :o

They should go lower down, round the fetlock ,otherwise not too bad,the more you practise the better they will be.Make sure you have an even tension all the way round.

I go past the fetlock nearly all the way down to the coronet band with my bandages. For extra safety you could put overreach boots on all four feet in case your horse steps on himself when travelling (put them on over the top of the bandage).
I think it can be quite hard to get the tension right when you're learning especially with thick fibergee and when you're worried about accidentally going too tight and causing problems with circulation. However, you do need to get a balance so that your bandages don't slip down. I think the best way to practise is to put the bandages (with fibergee) on your own legs so that you can feel for yourself exactly how tight you're doing it, whether the tension is even, if it is uncomfortably tight or whether it would be loose and floppy.
It's such a useful skill to have and practice makes perfect :)

I bandage, and I prefer to use Gamgee - ok, it's wasteful as I cut off new pieces every time - but it's also more flexible and moulds better to the leg, so it's easier to tension the bandages correctly.

Travel her with nothing on her legs if she does not like boots she might not like anything. I stoped using boots a long time ago.

Thanks everyone, I will keep practising and try the over reach boots too. I'm a bit too paranoid to travel with nothing, although she has travelled with bare legs with other owners.
Thanks for the advice :)
