Travelling an arthritic horse

Hi everyone, just after some advice on travelling my arthritic mare. In about 2 weeks we have to move fields due to where we are now being sold. It's only a short journey of approx 4 miles, so will probably only take 10 mins.

But my mare has bad arthritis and I'm
worried about her going in the trailer
and the strain on her joints, and I was wondering if leading her in hand would be less strain? I think that would take about an hour and a half going slow.

She will load but she's not keen on
travelling and always comes off bathed in sweat. She would go in our rice trailer, cross tied with no partition.
She's currently on 2 danilons a day and the vet is happy with her on that for now.

Thanks for any advice and opinions... And I know I worry waaaay too much.
 
have you got her on joint supplement ??

started with cortiflex but expensive now on flexijoint its amazing stuff she now back to her old self at 23 doing sponsored rides. Even my dog is on it sor hip dysplacia she also is not on bute for arthritics they say if there is fluid no pain no pain no bute full money back guarantee cost less that cortiflex and u only need small amount

even my donkey who was still and slow now canters and trots about i rec 100% over any other product i have tried them all

you could buy the smallest they do i bet by 2 weeks she will improve. worth ago b 4 u leave isnt it might be easier for her

vets give danylon and bute because they make a profit from it i use PRODYNAM



BETTER FOR THE HORSES INSIDES AND CHEAPER VETS DONT TRY OFFER IT COS THEY CANT MAKE ANYTHING OUT OF IT WE HAVE 2 ON PRODYNAM


i would travel her in trailer as if you get half way and she cant make it you will have to get trailer anyway

please do i can vouch for it 110 % diamond will not come of it now even the 29 year old was put on it the instructors didnt know then week later dhe said he was going well today much more supple more forward going i said he is on flexi joint owner trying it she said wow amazing
devils relief is ok our dog is on that too but this actually put fluid back in joint phone them speak to david or lady ask them about it

it actually says on the tub powerful/active ingredients its got more % of ingredients than others

Prodynam is bute(phenylbutazone) under another trade name. It contains the same active ingredient as equipalazone(the 'bute' that most vets prescribe) and a similar ingredient as danilon. The reason so few vets use it is that very very few horses will eat it as it has a very bitter taste. So you are lucky your horses will eat it as yes, it is indeed cheaper! It is no better or worse 'for their insides' than equipalazone! Cos its the same!

With regard to the OP, speak with your vet, but I'd probably be giving an extra sachet of danilon the day before and the day of the move to ease any additional stress. I'd opt for the 10 mins in trailer rather than the long walk.
 
never had any problems with eating tho diamond wont eat bute .

well all i know is what vet told me about prodynam there is one ingredient in it difference and that the one.

anyway glad you found it yes please le me know how you get on
 
I think if you travel her in the trailer then just drive as smoothly and slowly as possible, real slow on corners (sod the traffic behind). Walking her there in hand is an option but in this case i'd just ring your vet and ask their opinion on the best way to move the horse. With my old boy, i restrict travelling, drive very, very slowly and warp him and his legs up well so he cannot damage himself. good luck!
ps, i also use equimins flexijoint and it has made a huge difference to my 18 yrs old with DJD.
 
Okk after along chat with my vet

prodynam is 70p a sachet come in a box of 100
bute is 85 p per sachet and comes in a box of 100

danylon 86p per sachet comes in a box of 60



bute is the bitter tasting one

prodynam is not as bitter thus horses prefer it

danylon is better for the horses gut

they going to ring me tomorrow with copies of the fact
least we got that straight in our minds .
