does anyone have any advice on travelling a three year old for the first time? I am planning to travel him with his mother (who he met nose to nose for the first time in two years last week with much excitement but she is a very calming influence), take him on a trailer and he is currently on a calming supplement...any top tips? He will be wearing travel boots and a tail guard, does he need anything else? Poll guard? My mare is a superb traveller so have not had this worry before!!

When I travelled my youngsters, 3 and 2 years old at the time, I just booted them and gave them hay. They travelled for 3 hours fine. That was their first time on a long journey and they were as good as gold.

Try not to worry x

I think just going for it will be the best. I have a couple of good, very horsey friends who are going to help me and show no fear so I think taking a step back, staying calm and just getting on with it is going to be the best...do you think travelling with the mare is a good idea? They're onlyu moving 30mins in a trailer down the road!

I think travelling with another calm horse is a good idea for their first outing in the trailer. Otherwise give him lots of hay to munch on. Oh, and make sure you've put on his travel boots in the stable a few times so he gets used to them or he could boot all the way trying to get them off!
