Travelling horse first time in a trailer at night

Any advice please.. I am hoping to take my horse to an evening dressage comp in the next couple of weeks she is a brilliant traveller, even loads herself every fortnight when we go for lessons but this has always been in daylight. I have an internal light in the trailer and I understand it is a legal requirement to have this on while travelling is there anything else I need to know or should do/provide?
 
Sorry. Rear lights its carry on as normal?

Incidentally I took my old rice to a different trailer company yesterday who advised me its a legal requirement and automatic 3 point penalty if u havent got, an fluorescent safety chain?

Fluorescent so police can see it on a drive by. Do u know about this? (& why didnt my usual repairer tell me!!)
 
A light on inside as a legal requirement? Really? Never heard of that before but what I do know is that you must not have a white light showing to the rear.

Flourescent safety chain? Again, really? Never heard of that or seen any.

Sounds like two old wives tales to me. Would be interested to hear from someone who knows what they are talking about on these.
 
Only travelled in the dark once - in an older trailer light in inside didn't work -
I am presumimg a lot of older trailers will have this issue
Have upgraded trailer now & have a working light not that helps regarding to current laws
 
I can't see what the difference is between a horse in a trailer or lorry and we always have the lorry internal light off when traveling at night.
 
I have never travelled at night with the inside light on either with a trailer or a lorry.

I have never heard of having the inside Light on is a legal requirement and I have travelled horses for over 40 years.
 
Dont know about the above but we made a mistake when we travelled our young mare. She was fine going as it was light but on the way home we didn't think about where the carpark lights were shining. As you approached the ramp the light was in front of the lorry and very bright. This meant she couldn't see the ramp properly and she stumbled up it and then said No. We turned the lorry around but the damage was done as she would not go in.
Luckily they had a spare stable and we left her there. Next day we trained her in the dually halter and she did give in. A year later and we still have to pop it on and we haven't been out after dark again so don't know if it would work at night.

I don't think it's a legal requirement to have a florescent safety brake cable otherwise why would they sell them in normal colours. interested to know whether I should or shouldn't have light on though.
