Travelling in horsebox with windows open??

Is it ok to travel horses with the horse area windows open and the roof vent open???

Might seem a silly question but i wondered whether it would affect the stability???

Always windows open otherwise they bake! (even in the winter at least one open... otherwise it turns into a steam room..)

nope, dosnt affect stability.... if you have your car windows open does it make THAT much of a difference?

When I travelled my horse I usually open all the windows fully which is like half way really and his window just a bit but also open the roof vent too.

Always open, if you think about cattle lorries they have loads of vents that can't be closed.

If the roof vents open like a caravan's roof vents, I'm not sure I'd travel with that open...but windows I would always have open.

We accidentally left our caravan roof vent open when travelling (years ago....I don't own a caravan now) and it blew off going along the motorway as air got under it. Made for a wet spot in the living area when it rained whilst we were travelling

Yup! Totally agree - never travel with them shut.

Also, it is so important to have air flowing through - regardless of the temperature. As the horse is tied they are more prone to respiratory problems (can't get their heads down) especially on long journeys.

Is this the same for trailers?? As in this heat i have the vent in the roof open, for short journeys the top of the front load open, but not if i'm going on a motorway/fast road-
does anyone keep their's open all the time?? in this weather?

I second this! I always travel them with the windows open. It does get hot in there.

Always have something open, but other day saw IFor Williams trailer with the front top of door open and large horse stood there looking out (head wasn't out)!!! Is this safe??

In the lorry everything is always open! other wise the ponys bake!

In the trailer the roof vent and the back top doors and any windows are open, but the front top closed as horseys can put their head out and that isnt safe, also things can get flicked up through it

Ive never had a box before and the short journeys Inky has been in it was when it was cold!!!!

He doesnt sweat as he is closer to the floor than the ceiling but im going to a show on Saturday and its a four hour drive and in this heat i couldnt imagine travelling without some fresh air for him!!! Just wanted to check!!!!

It's really not recommended to travel anywhere with the top of the front unload open.

Poor horses all that windy air rushing straight in their face. Then there's the risk of them hitting their head on something if they stick it out.

Always have all the windows open if you are traveling with forage, as the inevatable dust from the forage is very bad for their brething, as they can't strach down to clear their airways. If you are worried about the cold put another rug on.

(That is what the GB team people said to us for traveling long distances)

i cannot think why anyone would be so bloody irresponsible and downright thoughtless to both their horse and other road users to be travelling their horse in a trailer with the front ramp top door open

btw windows slightly open, and roof vent can be left open if it is a push up type which is designed to be left open during transit as the wind flow goes throgh the apateure of the vent, hinged lid type vents should be closed as the lid can blow off.

And this is the terrible two in it when i got it. Ive had new partitions made and the living is being done as we speak!!!

The roof vent lifts up but you can shut one side without the other if that makes sense??? If i only opened the size closest to the back would that be ok??

NO NO NO, that is so dangerous. have the roof vent and the top doors at the back open, but never, ever the top door of the front ramp. If you don't think this is enough, you can buy the windows for the front top sections quite cheap (IW website) and fit them, but please don't travel with the whole door open.

I've travelled with the top front door open on a trailer - but only short distances and only in 30 mph roads - sorry but don't see the problem!

I haven't met a horse who's neck was long enough to get out of the door and further out that the width of the trailer......
