I've recently bought an 18 month old miniature Shetland, which I need to pick up next week. I have an Ifor Williams 505 trailer with internal partitions, but obviously the front breast bar even on its lowest setting will probably be way over his head! Is this a problem or does anyone have any ingenuous tips on how to create a lower breast support for him?

thanks!! :)

oh don't say that I've just made a special trip today to pick up my partitions which I don't normally use as I thought he'd be too small rattling around in a big open trailer!!!
I actually don't have any shavings or straw so I can't really bed the trailer down unfortunately unless I made a special trip with the trailer on to buy some which would be a bit of a hassle....

I travel mine with the partition in but not tied up. I always jam either a couple of bags of shavings or some hay bales at the front to form a barrier. They have travelled quite a few times like that and have always been fine.

Loose, take out the partitions.

I don't even use the ramp for my mini, he is trained to jump in and out of the jockey door :) He chooses to travel right at the front of the trailer with his bum facing forwards.

Most horses, when loose, jam their rumps to the front and stand at an angle cross ways.

Another one here who doesn't bother tying the minis up in the trailer. We usually wedge a bale at the front on each side of the partions if all four are being moved at the same time and have 2 ponies per side and they are happy to get themselves into a comfortable position. I like the story of the mini that uses the jockey door lol!
Have fun with your new little pony - they are such characters!
