A friend may be giving me a lift to my new yard. Her trailer had the partition removed as her horse won't travel in it otherwise. My horse travels fine in a trailer or lorry. Will he be ok to go in her trailer? What does the partition actually do?

It depends on the horse really, if he's comfortable without, but i can't see why it wouldn't work :) if not, could they not put the partition back in? x

(not sure if i'm right or not, please correct me if i'm wrong)

Yes he will be fine i always travel mine without the partition it helps them to balance but dont forget to cross tie him

They should not really be using the partition for balance they have 4 legs for that and there should be a breast bar in the front, most by choice will stand on a slight diagonal so not having a partition allows this. I would tie as normal, on the right but if it looks as if he will try and turn round tie loosely on the left also.

Most horses prefer it without as they can find their balance better. The partition is there so you can travel 2 and separate them. The only reason they balance on the partition is because they have no other way of keeping themselves up when travelling forward in a confined space. You will probably find he stands "herringbone" across the trailer. When you travel horses loose (we used to take lots of mares and foals to the continent) you usually find they will stand crossways through choice. Make sure you cross tie him so he can't turn round, but he'll be fine :)
