Travelling -tails.

What is the best bandage/protector for tails? Have a cob with very think tail (even vet commented on the tail, loads of hair) when travelling like most horses leans on bum, rubbing tail and then poo/wee which isn't pretty when she comes out big brush tail/bandages slipped either up or down on the spot she has rubbed andpoo/wee smeared over inside tail/ or bandage if lucky :0(.
I have tried normal tie bandages but I want them to stay on with the rubbing it needs to be over tight, which I don't really want to do.
Any advise?
 
Sounds like a tail guard would suit her better; the type that wrap around the tail and attach to a roller with a strap along the back.
 
Put tail in the legs of a pair of old tights and bandage on - I've been known to wrap the lower part with Cling Film to keep out the poo and wee. I bandage part way, then add the Cling Film and continue bandaging.

Then put a neoprene tail wrap over.

The tail guards I like are the really old ones that were made of wool fabric and had a long tie that went to the surcingle of the rug - the tail guard was held up!

You can buy tail guards which go over the tail bandage, fastened with Velcro, with a tail bag attached which is basically a nylon bag you put the tail it's protected from getting covered in poo! You have to look around for one big enough to accommodate your horse's tail though, if its as thick as you say!
The tail guard part will protect from rubbing a bit better than just a bandage too.
 
Will check out tail guards, didn't know you can now get full ones, that would be very handy, Are there any makes to avoid?
 
you could try putting the back bar forward so she can't lean and rub and put a tail bag on?

We used to use put tights over tail and then normal bandage over the dock. Worked really well :)
 
My pony always sits on his tail and I use one of those tail guards that ties to a roller. If I don't he will rub the bandage off and end up with a bleeding tail.
