Hopefully travelling to australia tomorrow, am hoping to do some riding tomorrow and wondering whether british kit is accepted over there. Do i take my hat and short oots with me or just hope i can find somewhere where i can hire the stuff

please please help, trying to pack my bag and dont know what to do

As long as it doesn't bulk up your suitcase too much, I'd take them with you. Nothing nicer than having your own gear. Am very jealous btw, hope you have a lovely time. If you have any extra space in your suitcase, PLEASE pm me. :D

Don't know about Oz but went to NZ a few years back & took chaps, breeches & boots. Had to have boots & chaps steam cleaned by NZ customs as we live on farm but well worth the effort & had some fantasitc riding.

Enjoy your trip.

I'd take short boots and some chaps with you - wouldn't bother with your hat unless its a lightweight vented one - it gets hot over there!

Although depends on what kind of riding you'll be doing, jeans an cowboy boots could be more appropriate? :)

Sorry, just the title of your thread and had a vision of someone sitting on a plane, all dressed up in very smart breeches, boots, black jacket etc...honestly I must get a grip...

Take your hat and boots, chaps if you want them. Lots of people ride "english" style out there and use normal riding hats. When you get to the airport declare that you have your boots and chaps in your bag, as they will want to clean them. This is no bad thing if the queues are long and slow, as this normally means you get through more quickly.
It's probably going to be hot, it's summer out there. Take long sleeved shirts and plenty of high factor sunscreen and use it. I swore by P20 when I was out there, and plenty of very good moisturiser. Don't forget to protect the backs of your hands and tips of your ears!

V Jealous! I didn't take anything with me when we went to Oz, just hired a hat and wore light trousers, not ideal but managed happily enough. Have done this in many countries now although I prefer my own gear it is easier not having to pack and carry it, plus we had all our diving gear with us too so already had pretty full bags.

Enjoy!

If im ever going to get to ride I make sure I take
Stretchy jeans/jeggings
long socks
I have ankle and long length lace up converse sneakers that I am happy to ride in

Unless you think you cant hire a hat out there then dont take one.

you can ride in normal clothes!!

In Aus they are worried about soil coming into the country carrying parasites and nasties that might affect their native species of plants etc. So they would want to know about anything in hand luggage or checked luggage. I put my boots and hat and flex stirrups (for my poorly knees!) in my luggage where they were easily accessible.
