Hi all,

Myself and a couple of friends are hoping to go to badminton horse trials this year, coming from Ireland. We’re looking at flying into Bristol and potentially staying there but we’re finding it hard to figure out if any public transport will go near the event? From what I can see we would need to get a train to Chippenham and then maybe a reorganised coach from there but not 100% sure this is correct. We’re looking at going only on xc day.

Would any one have any info about getting there or know if there would be anywhere else to stay closer to it? Thanks a mil

There used to be coach trips organised by Badminton Horse Trials for XC day, but I'm not sure that's the case now. There is a page on their website about the coach trips, but it dates from 2016, so it might be worth contacting the Box Office to ask.

I'd personally recommend hiring a car from Bristol Airport, staying nearby and driving to the event (very) early on the Saturday morning - aiming to be on site by 8am to avoid the massive queues. Also, you probably know already but all tickets now have to be purchased before the day.

There are several hotels nearby - Travelodge / Premier Inn through to more luxurious accommodation, plus of course Airbnb's.

Have a great trip! 😊

Book a hire car as it will save your sanity. They won’t be as expensive as you think if you use a comparison site. Also get insurance to protect your hire car excess and it won’t be too bad cost wise. Cheaper than public transport and getting taxis.
