We’re travelling to Bordeaux at the end of June for an week and are taking the two GLPs - leaving the old lady Dally at home with the mother in law.

I know about them needing to be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days prior to their appointment to have their health certificate done- and that health cert appt needs to be done within 10 days of departure. I’m hoping that can be tied in with Ivy’s jabs as they’re due around that time.

Then on the return leg they need to have a vet witness them taking/being administered with tapeworm treatment within 5 days of departure from France. Has anyone done this recently, and can maybe recommend a vets that does this all the time? Any idea of costs? We’ll be taking the tunnel so will pass through Calais- I’m guessing there must be vets that do this here regularly?

Any hints and tips greatly appreciated!

Make sure your vet has an OV to do the AHCs, not all do - if not there is many new "click and collect" and house call OV services who take the info from your vets Rabies vaccine and then provide the cert (both dogs can be on one cert). They are often significantly cheaper (£100-150) and hotter on rule changes/issues. Rabies cannot be given with Lepto 4 or KC to be officially valid due to the license. So keep that in mind.

Not all rabies vaccines are valid after 21 days, some are 30 days so best to have it done 5-6 weeks ahead at least to prevent any issues.

The microchip MUST be scanned before rabies is given and this noted on the vaccine card and the medical records.

The wormer needs to be given between no less than 24h and no more than 120 hours before your scheduled arrival into Britain. You can bring your own tablets as long as they are labelled for treatment of tapeworms.

The Pet centre at the tunnel will sign section 8 of the AHC - ensure this is done before you leave the desk

Final thing, read the AHC and check every single detail three times! A slip up in spelling, swapped digits etc and the whole thing is useless

Lastly, come in to Ireland, get pet passports and never have to deal with one again!!!

You are just the best, Thankyou SO much for all of that! A trip to Ireland is absolutely on our list for this shooting season 😁

Is there a set amount of time that needs to elapse between lepto 4 and Rabies? Or just not in the same appt?

Not in same appointment, 2 weeks is usually quoted to be "safe"
