Travelling tomorrow? Naked or not?

Murph is off on the trailer to the new yard tomorrow. It's no more than 5 miles away, so about a 10 - 15 min journey. Weather forecast is 9 degrees and "sunny intervals".

Do I leave him naked or put his fleece on for the journey?

The "sunny intervals" won't be warm enough to heat the inside of the trailer. Most trailers have quite a draught blowing through them when moving, so personally I would use a lightweight rug.

Fully clipped, but very thick skinned and sweats up easily, never wears anything thicker than a MW rug...

I would put a very thin sheet/cooler on then.

If he sweats up easily and is clipped, I would put a cooler on him, 5 miles is'nt far but maybe 20 mins in box, 10 mins loading etc, enough for him to get cold

Also, in 5 miles he won't get warm due to his balancing muscles, so would poss ibly be colder than a longer journey. Yes a sweat type rug, I reckon.

For length of this journey I wouldn't worry too much, however many people tend to overheat horses for travelling. On a long journey - sweating up causes loss of fluids - which is not a good idea.
