Hi all, I will be travelling my yearling for the first time and I think I am going to travel him loose however I was wondering if people put travel boots on at this age? He’s literally just turned 1 last week. Didn’t know if they’d just get in his way for balancing, I do have just fleece leg wraps which are less restrictive but wasn’t sure if just to not boot up. Advice greatly appreciated :) thanks guys

depends on how well handled and on how easy he will travel but we usually tie up and dont use boots. Also depends on the choice of transport trailer or lorry 7.5 or 3.5 ton. Size of yearling and his weight
A clydsdale size yearling loose in a small trailer would be a nightmare a TB sized yearling in a 3.5 lorry would be okay, A pony in anything loose but you have to adjust your ideas to the animal in front of you

sorry realised how much I missed in the info. He’s relatively well handled but moving to be on a yard where he can be handled lots more :) not done much tieing up which is why I’m thinking travelling loose. He’s only a little guy at about 13.2 currently :) thanks for the info guys :)

I travelled a yearling filly down to Basingstoke, completely loose, no bandages, just closed the trailer up so she couldn't see out. I think she thought she was in a stable. Her face when we opened up at the other end was a picture, she couldn't understand why the world had changed. Didn't bother her in the slightest, took everything in her stride.
