No but am tempted. Our lab is so hypo, she walks miles every day and still torments us all evening - probably our fault for laughing at her or getting up to do dummy work if she persists enough.
OH said though that it would just get her fitter and fitter and she would be even worse.
Are you thinking of getting one?
Yes! But again I am thinking it will be good for wearing him out, but also taking the excited edge off before we go out to help with his dog reactiveness. I did think he may turn into some weird super athlete tho......
Dont know much about them but they are going to make the dog fitter so are less likely to tire out with normal exercise. I think training their brain is better as it does tire them out. Perhaps some brain training before the normal walk will take the edge off him.
If you compare it to a horse walker they seem to make horses super fit and they end up being fitter than their owners can cope with. I know - you need one as well and you can both work out before a walk!! LOL
Im talking about using it for 10 mins before a walk- not at any great speed, and not for masses of time!! and not as a substitute for getting out and about
DG- doesnt work, as 10-15 mins doing brain stuff simply does nowt to curb the enthusiasm, and if I do too much he gets bratty about it as he gets bored, cant concentrate
Is there anywhere you can chuck a ball for him for ten minutes first?
How is his nose? B got ten times better once he was working, we did a track every morning or evening or both and he was always too knackered to grizzle at anyone
ball chucking in the garden- yes for about 5 throws- then is bored- tried differing balls- balls on ropes- still the same- over the field will chase it till the cows come home! Same with a flirt pole- after 5 mins he is done (this does work tho- he is calmer).
His nose is actually pretty shite LOL- but we do do find it games etc- still he just switches off after a while as if he is bored/brain hurts!
Im going be slaughtered by you for this but why dont you get another dog to keep him company and hoon around the garden.
Darcy and Diesel expend so much energy play fighting in the garden, the first summer I had them they wiped out my herbacous borders but it did make them more tractable. It would have to be a bitch and maybe she may even succeed with Dex where others have failed.
yep this would be my ideal too DG- a large bitch to put him in his place, (there is a Husky Bitch at Dog comms being drafted in to do just this- and be his friend of course). Both wearing each other out- perfect!! Landlord's however are a difficult breed to convince.
Oh I didnt realise about the landlord, on paper its sounds a great solution but it would have to be the right bitch as you would have double the trouble.
Another solution is to move near to me or some other member with the right dog/dogs.
LOL- Have plans to steal BC's Dax, or Caylas Rottie lady LOL!! Although a Dex and Dax in the same house could be interesting!!
Think it would need to be an older wiser, well socialised, but playful type girlie, with enough size to stand up to his rough and tumble........... if only
