So my new horse arrived Friday 🙈 He is a 4 year old exracehorse. I want to praise good behaviour and just spoil him but this horse will not eat treats! He is somewhat interested in the Baileys Tasty Treats but anything else we have tried with him he sniffs and wont touch. Minty treats, polos, apples, carrots, bananas! Even tried putting the carrots in his feed bowl and he ate around them and licked the bowl clean of the feed!! At first I thought maybe he just didnt understand treats but now I am thinking he is just incredibly fussy 🙈 Is there any treats that other peoples fussy horses are somewhat interested in?!

I'm not sure I'd be in a hurry to get a horse keen to take treats from you....I've been deliberately feeding my youngster absolutely nothing from my hands! Can you feed him next to another (kind) horse who does eat carrots? Maybe if he sees another horse eating carrots from a bowl he'll realise that they're desirable. He may just not realise yet that they are food, if he's never had them.

ETA he's really cute BTW :)

The feral ponies we have sometimes have to be persuaded - carrots don’t normally take long but I have been known to pop a polo in through their lips and wait until it dissolves. At that point they usually decide they very much like that!

He’s very cute indeed!

My chap isn’t fussy at all, but Hilton’s Herballs and Stud Muffins are his favourites.

The only thing he’s ever turned his nose up at was a banana. Even though it was peeled, he really wasn’t sure what to do with it.

Thankyou everyone! I need him to be interested in treats for when I get stretched from the physio hence why Im trying to find something he is desperate for 🙈 I will try a few recommendations and hopefully one he decides he loves 🤞🤞

Using something like a horselyx is better for stretches

Stud Muffins. At Christmas Christmas Pudding flavoured Stud Muffins. For special occasions like his birthday Stud Muffins Celebration Cake. I haven't had your problem but I think they'd also deal with his horrendous case of dandruff ...

A lot of racers dont like mints, Orbi hates minty stuff. BB loved them but didnt know what they were when he first arrived 🤣

He is very handsome 🥰 sucker for a bay!!

I dont like the baileys treat because they have alfalfa in them but if you like them, they do them in 20kg bags for £17.99 so that might save you some money,

I feed the lincoln treats, maxima munch and pure feed ones occasionally. Pure feed ones are only £4.95 for quite a big bag. All pure ingredients. But the real nectar for Orbi is stud muffins. He absolutely loooooves them so he gets a fair amount of those and carrots 🤣

We are going through stages of trying all sorts of treats etc we make videos of it🤣
Orbi is very fussy 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣

My last exracer ate anything basically! (Well… anything ‘normal’) but Asta just gives it a sniff and wont even try it 😂 Im just stood there like ‘Id rather you tried it and spat it out over looking at me like I am feeding you poison!’ 😂

Orbi thinks everything is poison 🤣 tried to do a fruit winder video with him yesterday and he spat it out!
