How can I poultice a deep ish wound of 1cm on top outside leg? Tried bandage today but it slipped right down.now worried it's not protected enough have washed and put on large blub of ointment only.think horse been kicked as area around wound swollen as if after impact if that makes sense.

I would be getting the vet to flush and give antibiotics if that was mine. My mare had exactly the same last year and within 24 hours she had cellulitis and her whole leg was like a tree trunk. Took nearly 2 weeks to return to normal size!

I would clean/ flush it with just water, then call a vet to get some antibiotics and bute. I wouldn't personally put anything on a deep cut as you can clog it and cause all sorts of problems. Just clean daily with hibiscrub and the vet will probably give you some silver spray. ( this is if it was caught too late to be stitched )

I would clip the area around the wound, and buy some adhesive horse plasters. These will allow the wound to breath, but offer protection.

Agree about flushing the wound with warm salt water, and consider some AB's also.

As above . Mammoth tape is brilliant better than elephant tape.

Good you called the vet, hard place to treat this area.
I been poulticing my mare a while now tried most tapes but this is the best to date

Just further to this. Does anyone know how long I would look at this to heal? I have come to the end of our flushing period and she will come off the ABs after today but the wound looked a bit gunky this morning when I checked and the area still has swelling in it. I will go back tonight to see what the day has done and whether it could be infected after all or if this is part of the normal healing process. Anyone ideas? Do you think she may need more ABs?
