Hi guys!

as you may be aware this day last week flash cast in his stable and caused a massive lump at his chest between his front legs and it streched down to his belly on one side! Had the vet out and he said that the lump is trauma caused by casting!

a week on and the lump is still very visable and its still sore to touch, hes on bute once a day.

the vet told me to cold hose it but because the last week has been in minus degrees i decided not to hose it because i was afriad of him getting a chest infection because of where it lump is, the vet told me it would take a week to 10 days to heel and its showing no signs of it!

does anyone know how to treat mussle trauma?

Sometimes you can help the oedema disperse with gentle massaging. One of my horses did this when she was pivotted over a fence. It ripped all the flesh off her front and she had oedema at the front and inbetween her front legs. It took a long time for the oedema to go down but all was fine in the end. I'll search for a photo for you to look at so you can judge sizes.

Lol!! Yep over all the years there have been a few freak injuries to say the least. It's always the compromise when you choose to keep horses in as natural an environment as possible, whereby you have a large number of horses living in large pasture fields; particularly when you have a high percentage of youngstock

. I keep photos of every injury so can reference them whenever I need to.

This little Arab was babysitting a number of youngsters (along with my other much bigger nanny-horse) and they were cavorting around, bashed into her and somehow managed to make her fly over the fence (which is 4ft tall but thankfully vinyl otherwise injury could have been so much worse)

Why do you think I am so laid back about trivial little cuts and bumps ...

how about arnica (homeopathy)

can get it from boots 3 tablets twice a day for a week.

ive been using it on my mare who has just had an operation on both hind legs she had bad swelling after ive used arnica for a week after and even my vet commented on how quickly it had gone down and asked what i had done! he was shocked!
