Hope someone can help - My horse has scar tissue from having gastric ulcers when he was a racehorse. The scarring gets inflamed from time to time. Originally it was treated with Gastroguard & all was fine, to keep him ok since I've been giving him NAF Thrive. However, he tries to avoid eating it whenever possible which quite often means he goes without his breakfast! Have changed to NAF GastriAid but whilst I'm sure they both work it's very difficult to make sure he actually gets any of it inside him!!! Does anyone know a treatment/maintenance supplement that isn't a powder so he can't blow if off his food and avoid eating it or is a powder but it is more palatable so he does actually eat it.
Would be very grateful for any help with this.

Sorry, I'm not going to be much help as I've not had to deal with ulcers. Just passing on my thoughts.

Is it an option to feed your horse sugarbeet/purabeet or a similiar wet/soaked feed? You could then mix in his supplements and prevent it from being blown away or left behind in the feed bucket.

I've also heard of Happy Tummy Charcoal (by Fine Fettle Feeds) - if the manufacturer recommend to feed this in small quantities, then your horse would be less likely to detect it in his feed. Maybe it's worth a try?

Thanks for your reply and suggestions npage 1223.

However, he won't eat his feed or his hay if it is wet! He dunks his hay himself as he eats it and he won't eat his hard feed if it's been damped at all so that's a no go. Have ordered some Happy Tummy to give it a try after seeing an ad in H & H just waiting for it to arrive.

Waltzing Matilda - will let you know if it works.
