Can anyone reccomend sugar free non heating treats? Ive cut out carrots after reading a recent thread about their sugar content and need a replacement treat for my young horse.

My two youngsters don't understand about treats and will not eat them :) So I haved carried on with using tone of voice and making a fuss of them as a reward.

They came to me from Blue Cross where all feed/treats are given as bucket feeds and I think that as future children's ponies, it is a good idea to have ponies that do not look for treats and start nipping - not suggesting that you OP would let this happen! Sensible use of treats is great and we always used to give our horses a reward when they finished a competition round, or did really well schooling. I have fed swede and they seem to love it.

We let a pony go on loan once to a child who loved him very much, but gave him treats all the time, he came back with a real problem of nipping as soon you handled him and he did not get a treat.

Sugar free polo's or Simple Systems Lucie Mints - the latter can be hard to get hold of, I always stock up at events where they have a stall as I don't feed SS anymore.

Generally don't feed treats as she then starts mugging anyone thinking they have sweets and expecting them all the time I will give her sugar free polos but pop them in her feed bucket :)
She has a jolly ball with high fibre nuts and loves it
