I was really pleased with Buddy as he tried so hard.

We came 7th (rosettes to 6th - typical!

).

Canter (slow as poss) - full marks
1 Bending poles - knocked a cone so lost a few marks
2 Rein back - he didn't like the chalk on the floor but we lost marks for a couple of tiny knocks
3 Jump - didn't do this!

(he would jump big and I might not!)
4 Trot corridor - very close to jump so lost marks as walked then trotted but their fault really
5 Bridge - brave boy lost marks for refusals
6 Low branches - good boy I looked up too early
7 Led ditch over dead body - full marks
8 led S bend - full marks
9 Mount from off side - lost marks as took too long but he was good
10 Ridden s bend - run out of time so no marks
Walk (fast as poss) - 14 out of 30

So he was a star, all points lost were down to me

Brilliant, well done!

I did my first Trec comp this year and loved it, wish they did more around here! You didn’t have to do the leave the horse for 10 seconds without it walking off, me and Bodey got full marks for that one, he, he!

They are explained on the BHS website, in the Winter there is the Kelly Marks series where you do control of paces (slowest canter, fastest walk) and obstacles to test obedience. In summer there is orienteering too (map reading to a route to a set pace on a horse). It is addictive and helps to teach the horse to deal with "odd things". They seem quite straightforward till you actually try to do them!

The BHS website lists comps by area.

What a clever boy - looks great fun. You might have got a rosette if you had tried the jump though.

How did Lisa do on her ex racer - bet he wasn't as calm as your boy?

I agree if we had been clever enough to pop over the jump in a steady fashion we would have been ok for the corridor but he jumps extravagently and I thought it was better to be organised for the corridor where I would stand a better chance of some points

(my 9 year old said "that jump is really small"

). Lisa posted about her mare here http://www.horseandhound.co.uk/forums/showthreaded.php/Cat/0/Number/3670939/an/0/page/1#3670939 She did really well, but I can't get the vid to upload

well done. I love Trec and it is amazing how you can have any type of horse. I did it on a 16.2 TB. Great fun. I especially like it because you can miss out the bits you don't fancy and not get the big E. You proved that you can still almost get placed even when you miss bits out.
Congratulations.

That was so much fun to watch, thanks for sharing !:)

And your boy is gorgeous in addition to being so willing and brave (that scary noisy bridge he had to step over

) !
