Ok, so me and Mols took part in the Kelly Marks "Perfect Partners" Trec competition today. We've never done anything like this before, in fact it was our first ever competition full stop.
We had to do Control of Paces, where we have to canter as slow as possible and walk back as quickly as we can. We got only 1 point for the canter (out of 30) and just 5 for the walk!! Was a bit disappointed with that but I think we just cantered too fast!
Then we had to do some obstacles (points out of 10). We got a 1 for the bending poles, 4 for carrying a cup (couldn't stop to pick the cup up first time), 9 for walking over tarpauline, zero for immobility (she doesn't like standing on her own), 10 for walking through a trailer, 4 for remounting, 7 for trotting through a narrow corridoor, zero for rein-back (we pretty much demolished it!), 9 for walking over a footbridge and 9 for our little jump!

I am quite happy with those results, especially as it was our first time.

It was a really laid back competition and everyone was really friendly. If anyone fancies something a bit different and likes having a laugh (sometimes you just have to laugh, or you'll cry!!) then I highly recommend you look up a local Trec competition.

He he - I have always liked the look of TREC, I think I'd be rubbish too, I reckon it's much harder than it looks!

Sounds like you had a great time (which is the important thing!) and well done on your results!

:)

Hehe! Some of it quite tricky, the corridoors you have to ride down are really very narrow, but most of it was quite easy. Having a pretty much bombproof pone does make life a bit easier. It was such a laugh and I'm so glad I did it.
If you find something local, really do have a go. You won't regret it, it's such fun! Like handy pony gymkana games for adults!!

Well done, sounds like fun too, I think I'd loose marks for mounting specially on the big ginger numblood, do you think loose more marks if I droped down a rope ladder? *grins*

Kenzo - there was a mounting block but the rules say you shouldn't use it but some people did. Suppose you just get less marks.

Alliebaxter - it really was so much fun. I might not have been saying that if I'd made a complete numpty out of myself but...!

clipcloppop - Haven't seen your post yet, but will have a look next. My hairy donkey/cob is pretty useless at schooling/jumping etc, so it's the perfect thing for us to do! You don't even need to dress up in no poncy jackets, etc, just wear whatever you like as long as it's safe. Might even have a go at it with the orienteering stage (POR stage) if I can find one near us over the summer.

Well done I think the tasks are really difficult to do well - Id love to have a go at this but my horse is the biggest wuss (or comedian). I had visions of training him to do this when the strain of dressage becomes physically too much for him as I am a person who needs some sort of goal to keep me going. I've got him to do loads of walking over tarpaulins, duvets, waving umbrellas and five minutes later he looks at them again like he's never seen them before in his life :D However you have inspired me to have a go if I can find one around here - the cup might be a problem though as last time my trainer put a mug on on the fence post you would have thought it was a giant vulture waiting to eat him!
