I am about to book into my first Trec comp.I am only doing the beginers class but i'm not really sure what it involves. We have to do a control of paces then 10 ptv obstacles. What sort of obsticles are involved?.And what is expected in control of pace.Or does anybody have any good links that will explain things.Thankies.

Off the top of my head there are things like a gate, leading and riding up and down an incline, reining back through a corridor, navigating an S-bend, riding under low hanging branches and lots more!

The only tip I would give is get a copy of the rules first as there are specific ways to do each obstacle and you can gain points by doing things the 'Trec way'! eg leading by walking in front of the horse instead of at it's side.

Ah thank you.I am really looking forward to it.I have never done anything like it before. As for reining back that will be very interesting lol.Oh well we might give everybody else a giggle if nothing else!!.

It really is so much fun!
I've only done a few local events but what I've found is that some people are good at some parts, some at others... its a very inclusive competition!
I've only got a wee 14.2 so she is very handy and we have done well but she tends to get a bit overexcited at the obstacle part especially as they go from fast things to things where the horse needs to stand still lol I'm working on it!

Let us know how you get on xx

Hello i have done a couple of indoor ones and really enjoyed them we had riding through a corridor ( 2 poles on the floor) leading over a ditch ( leading over a blue sheet ) an s bend ( more poles in an s shape) one where your horse stands in a circle and you have to walk and leave it and your horse has to stand still for 10 seconds, a bridge, a mount ( off the floor) and a couple of little jumps and a rein back. You dont have to do them all you can miss any out you wish although i had a go at everything made a mess of quite a few bits cantered the fast walk ( horse decided a canter at walk speed was more appropriate!) the atmosphere was really nice and everyone was really helpfull.
enjoy yourself and et us know how you get on
