Hi there can anyone tell mw whether the pro- gaiters a made from a soft floppy leather or a stiffer leather.

Just looking for new ones for my daughters as she has the english gaiter co ones that are stiff leather and constantly moans about them. unfortunately ariat don't fit her so was wonderingwhat the tredsteps are like?

They're pretty stiff - as in you can't roll them up but not stiff like the cheap brands which are horribly uncomfortable. Wore mine everyday for a year but now wear them just to compete in as decided I prefer the look to my long boots as they're higher cut. They have dropped into nice creases round the ankle. And have a narrow (about 2cm) stretchy section in the leather either side of the zip making them easy to put off and on. It's not elastic but actually stretchy leather so is really smart

Megabeast - do you think these are more comfortable to ride in than long boots generally? I need to get some everyday boots (not for competition) and can't decide between these and regular boots. I do like Ariats generally as the feet are so comfortable and would be tempted by the paddock boots and Tredsteps...

I do yes. Only thing I did find was that the leather at the bottom around the zip stretched a bit after heavy usage making the zip a pain to do up, or it might just be that I never clean the zip and it's a bit clogged! But yes, they're super comfy and I wear them with Ariat paddock boots, well, I did until last week when Father Christmas bought me some Tredstep Sport paddock boots (on sale in Derby House!) as my Ariats had fallen apart after many years of hard service

Only reason I switched to not wearing them every day was because I wanted to keep them for best and couldn't justify spending that much on another pair as money was a bit tight at the time. They always cleaned up beautifully and the leather is lasting really well inspite of regular abuse - they rarely got cleaned!

I love my Tredsteps. have only ever got them for competing. My current pair i have had for almost 10years (a few years of college i didnt wear them very often). The zips do need a bit of care as they can get clogged up (have done on both my pairs) but they wear really well, are very comfortable and do soften out nicely (but not enough to sag). Thoroughly reommend them!
Have never had Tredstep boots so have worn mine with Regent, Dublin and currently Ariat boots. Perfectly smart for hunting too!

I switched from Ariat to Tredstep and regret it. The zips are lousy - mine are a pain in the neck to do up but I do ride in them all the time. I have now bought another set of Ariats for when these finally die which I expect to happen fairly soon. I really like the look of them and they have been comfortable but I HATE the zips! I have spent ten minutes before trying to do them up and sweat or rain makes them a real pain.

thanks all will order some in can only be better than those gaiter co ones they are so stiff and tight.....so off to spend more money as about all I can do with this weather!

I treated myself to Ariat Monaco Zip Paddock boots but did not like the Ariat gaiters - I didn't like the ruffley bit that goes over the top of my boot and the ankle was a bit thick and not very elegant - I want mine for competition as couldn't get long boots to fit properly. (the zip of the Konigs broke when trying on in the shop - luckily it was the shop owner trying to force my leg in

So I bought the Tredstep Pro-gaiter and they are a bit stiff but I hope when I wear them in they will feel as fab as they look. I wanted elegant with high leg to make mine look longer and a shapely supportive ankle. Every day I use Devon-Pros (so comfy) and a cheap pair of faux suede half chaps I've had for about 5 years - I wish I could remember who the were made by?
