Hello all.Can i ask for your help please. My horse is at the moment being ridden in a Wintec wide saddle on the xxwide gullet because his leather saddle no where near fits him anymore. But i would love a leather saddle but do they make a xxwide saddle??.Or would a treeless be better??.And can i ask a daft question regarding the treeless..Is it one size fits all and i dont mean the seat size..Is there a point where the treeless saddle will not fit a xxwide horse??.Thankies all.

Don't know about treeless - never tried - but I do have an imported XXW saddle form ebay that goes on the highlands. The leather quality isn't great but the fit is good, and they are the widest saddles I have ever seen - Gallop make some

Thanks Mother_Hen.Do they do differant models?.As in a straight cut version?.My lad has huge shoulders and i always find the gp cut saddles interfere with his shoulders and get pushed back?.

Hehe thanks Jess.Sorry but i used to spend hours in Red Rea saddlery shop as my late uncles friend owns it.Brings back alot of fond memories. Thanks a good selection of saddle there!.

Treeless saddles fit any horse as far as I know, you just choose the size according to your seat and off you go! If you look on a few treeless website I'm sure there are some that offer trial periods.

The standard pommel insert on the barefoot treeless will not fit the very wide horse and you'll need to buy the extra wide one (for approx £30). I love my barefoot for hacking and it's the only saddle that I have found to fit my very wide cob properly. I probably wouldn't try any jumping in it as it has no knee pads but it is really comfy for hacking around in.

When I had a Shire X cob a treeless saddle (Torsion) made him feel even wider - so uncomfortable

Agree with the above poster who suggested the Ideal Highland and Cob (H & C) it's a really nice saddle and is a lot wider than a Wintec, which looked like a pea on an elephant on my cob even with the widest gullet in.

Highland and Cob - I think Ideal do. My cob I had an Albion GP and the tree points in the widest are angled back to they sit behind the shoulder rather than trying to go down the shoulder and then getting pushed back. Either of those will be wider than Wintec - couldn't get a wintec anywhere near wide enough for mine - though they didn't do the cob version then

*small voice* I love my leather treeless. Wide flat horsey feels narrower in it, goes better in it and it's dressage cut so keeps off his humungous shoulder.

I'm sorry..but i loathe treeless...they slip..really, they do. I wouldn't feel at all safe jumping a course with any tight turns and I'd NEVER go hunting in one. Also they have silly high cantles...not easy to get off, you need so much clearance!...OK, so you do feel as if you are riding bareback...but my bony a*** doesn't appreciate that AT ALL!!!

My mum's mare takes an XXW saddle. We've got her a straight cut one made by Silhouette, which fits her like a glove, and is very comfy for the rider.

I also second the Ideal H&C saddles, I've got an XW VSD for my mare and it's one of the comfiest saddles I've sat on. It's a bit too flat in the seat for serious schooling, but is great for hacks and jumping

it all depends on the type you buy. I have hunted and jumped Daisy in hers and it was very comfortable. It doesn't slip unless I'm sitting really badly or I lose a stirrup. Certainly much more stable than her old treed saddle because it molds onto her back. It's like anything else, you wouldn't say that one bit works for every horse and neither will one type of saddle

Wows have extremely wide fittings (I think they do the equivalent of 8XW but you'd need to check their site). Only downside is the price

I had a look on ebay and found the identical one I bought for the highland some 3 years ago, ebay item number 320232975620

Cheap and imported, but 3 years later mine is still going strong with just fading on the leather where the dye has rubbed off.
