to get a decent one at a reasonable price ?

never thought i would ask this as am not too convinced on them as it seems all the expensive ones get great reviews (have been on google for 1.30hr) lol and mid 5-700 ok reviews but the cheaper 2-300 get not so good...so my question..i can buy a 2nd hand tg for instance for under 180 cud i do that with a treeless or am i just buying a numnah with stirrups ? is there a treeless option for those on a budget ? even new a tg or wintec 500 most treeles are a lot more ? or maybe i shud try western any thoughts on these treeless saddles.....would like to try treeless but not convinced i shud have to pay high amounts for a saddle with less bits :D kidding ! anyway apart from ebay anyone reccommend reasonable budget saddles ?

My problem with treeless is, do they use normal girths and stirrup leathers, I bought one for my daughter, who couldn't get on with it, she brought it back, so it is sitting in my tack room, one of these days I will research them properly and use it, although my favourite saddle is the western.
Treeless are always coming up on e bay

You would be better buying a known, reputable make, such as Barefoot, secondhand and cheap than buying a cheap new saddle. Many of the treeless cheapies attach the stirrups by a length of leather directly over the horses back, only the better ones use a conventional method of attaching them. Also be prepared for the fact that most treeless require a good orthopaedic pad under them with a choice of risers to fit well.

Once you have a good one and have got used to it you will never want to change back!

Yes to the stirrup leathers and most use a dressage girth. My daughter didn't get on with hers until she had a Heather Moffet seatsaver.. now she is addicted.

I have saddle solutions, and they do come up now and again on ebay (the older models more frequently) and they are much more affordable though still admittedly pricey. The cheapo end of the market, really, Id steer clear.
There are some decent reasonably priced brands out there but some of the cheap ones you see about are horrendous.

Id go for decent second hand on a budget, rather than cheapy new.

I agree. I used to use my friends barefoot and it was amazing. I was short of cash so opted for a no named alternative from Germany. It looked nice and was comfy, but the quality wasnt there at all and it soon started to look a bit tatty and lost its comfort. Id say a cheaper version is OK if you just want an occasional hacking saddle, but if you want it as your main saddle, go with a second hand named brand. Barefoot are very good.

Good luck x

Some of the cheaper treeless are awful, is it worth the risk to your horse's back?
I'm a bit slow today - don't know what a tg saddle is...
IMHO the best treeless are the Heather Moffet saddles, Freeform. Solution and Sensation. I've had stablility problems with the HM on a roly poly cob that I couldn't overcome, the Freeform and Sensation were fine.
Most treeless saddles (but not all) use English style girthing. Some western versions use western-style so be careful.
I'm selling one of the good treeless with a good quality pad for £400 at the moment, but it would be worth about £800 new, so I think that's pretty reasonable.

I use a Podium, which generally only endurance people have heard of. Give them a search on the computer. I can give you the contact details for the UK supplier (based in Cheshire) for new. Sometimes second hand ones are for sale, usually on endurancegb website, but they go quick.

I had never been a fan of treeless saddle until about 6 months ago when I started riding a couple of horses for a friend, she is an avid treeless fan and has a Barefoot & a Heather Moffett...

I have recently bought a horse of my own again and I rode her in a GFS saddle and then tried her a few times in my friends Heather Moffett and my goodness what an amazing difference, she was like a totally different horse, completely free through the shoulder and back and her paces are a million times better...

I liked the feel that the Heather Moffett one gave me but I wasn't really that keen on it's apperance, I think that some treeless saddle can look a little odd compaired to a normal treed saddle so i started looking at different makes and models and came across Startrekk saddles and by fluke found one on ebay and it arrived on Wednesday. It looks just like a 'Normal' dressage saddle and its like riding on air, it is super comfortable and my girl works amazingly in it... So if you are after a dressage saddle and want something that looks like a normal dressage saddle then I would recommend one of these... They retail new at about £1200 and I got mine which is in 'As new condition' for £350... theres a pic of mine below :)
