what are peoples views on the treeless saddle, or the WOW saddles as am looking to buy one.

what are the fittings like eg. do they fit the like a normal saddle? and would i have to get a saddler to fit it ?
what size would i need as the horse its for is a 15.3 4yr old and he is short backed and has high withers
i am also wanting to do all disiplines with it

any info would be appreciated.

thank you in advance

I have a wow and love it-get a specialised saddle fitter though as fitting is everything-alot of normal fitters dont have a clue when it comes to wows.

wrt treeless I wouldnt use them with anything that had a high wither-the problem is clearance over the spine and they need regular adjusting (ie checking almost weekly) with pads so that the slightest change in the horse's shape can be adjusted for.many find them OK for a month and then run into problems as they bed in, the spine clearance goes and they get pressure points from stirrup bars. I am not anti-they really suit some types with low withers such as arabs etc

i'm looking at a Torsion at the moment - have only tried a hoobee in the past and it wouldnt fit my youngster.
the wow ones are fitted , torsion are bought direct from the website but you can get one on trial and talk to their advisors.

would a WOW saddle be better than buying synthetic saddle as i have a synthetic for my sec d mare and it has been reflocked once and needs redoing again and this has put me off as it was not done that long ago.

thanks again

Huge fan of the Torsion, just be sure you use a grippy pad such as the Barnsby Grip Pad underneath if you have a round horse!! Some tack shops and saddlers do sell them, but it is probably easier to go direct. It is always important to use the correct pads underneath any treeless saddle.

I have a Total Saddles Solution I use on two horses, one of which has very prominent withers and although I do have to use a pad I have not found this to be a probem. For the first month I had to use an extra pad until his muscles developed, but it was very clear when it was no longer needed (the extra pad that is, I still have one pad for him) and I just stopped using it. Treeless saddles are not sized to the horse but to the rider, so you need to let them know your height and weight and they can advise on size.

a treeless saddle should be fitted by a saddler, but some are more flexible to use than a coventional and will usually fit any horse of similar build, it is generally fitted to the riders bum more than the horse. i would not recommend a torsion as they create more pressure points than any and can actually be a lot worse for a horses back than a conventional. i don't know much about WOW's but a lot of people seem to like them. i just assume you would have to ensure that air is right in them, as you wouldn't want a solid saddle, air can be worse than flocking (think of a pumped up tyre.....it's rock hard!) Always ask a saddler to check for pressure points though! hope this helped

I've got a wow on a high withered TB with some muscle wastage. It's great when the fit is good, but he keeps changing so it needs regular re adjusting.
I've tried a Fhonix vogue on him and a total saddle solutions treeless- both of which are gulleted- but on him the fit has just not been quite right. Even with loads of 'shiming' they continued to move, back wards and forwards and side to side, and the amount of shimming needed put me in an awuful position; I looked like I'd learnt to ride about three days previously! I promise it's not just my riding

this was confirmed by my friend and the fitter.
Like any saddle, treeless suits some horses but not others
