Yes I know, you get what you pay for but I have a 13hh gypsy cob as a companion pony and he is an extreamly good doer so is on rations. He is too small for me to ride but I do sometimes lead him out. A friend has asked if her kids would be able to ride him which I am more than happy with, they are only little (3 and a very small 5yr old) so would be a case of they just sit on during a usual lead out with mum walking at the side.

The pony hasn't been ridden properly for 2 years so his saddle does not even go anywhere near to fitting him and don't want to spend a fortune for the kids to turn up once, decide they don't like it and quit.

I was originally looking at old fashioned pony pads but can't remember how they fasten and am thinking they won't go around his belly so I saw these. What do you think? Will they suit for the job? Any one tried anything similar?

It's not a brand I've heard of, so I'd say no. Some of these treeless are horrendous, and dangerous. Maybe some other people will have heard of the brand and have nice comments to make but I recommend sticking to well known and trusted brands, even if you go second hand.

NOOOOOOOOO!

Horrible, cheap nasty things like that will do more harm than good.

There is a reason why decent treeless saddles are so expensive - a lot more research and development has gone into them to eliminate pressure points, among other things. They also have to be made very well, to compensate for the lack of solid tree to attach those little essentials like girth straps and stirrup leathers!

You (and your horse) would be much better off getting a well respected brand like Barefoot second hand from ebay.

Fair enough, if they want to ride it'll have to be bareback then until I'm sure they are interested as I am not going to splash out £100s for a one off especially when he already has a saddle just thought this might do in the mean time as the kids only weigh in at 12kg and 15kg.
Obviously for a heavier rider or for more than 20 mins once a week I would get him a proper saddle but just can't justify it yet
