Today, we had a strange sort of ride.
I was pretty eager to get going, because I had been in pony jail all day, but I was good and stood still as the Carrot Lady got on---she got really mad at me the last two days when I kept trying to walk off.
When we got to the woods, she sent me onto the deep path that she calls the "canter track". I don't like it at all, because it's far too deep to walk on properly, so I tried to leave. But she got mad at me again. At least there were lots of nice tasty trees in reach!
Then we went on the hard path that goes to the corner with lots of options. She wanted me to trot, for most of our ride today. But it wasn't like normal: the last few times, she's been much more insistent, but when I try to speed up (what else is she squeezing so much for?) she does her up-and-down thing slower, and she's keeping those rein things so much shorter than I'm used to (except in the square place with the roof, of course)! She says I need to "be ridden into a contact", and that she's taking advantage of my "going forward more on hacks" as a way to get there...I'm confused: is she saying she's taking advantage of me?! Should I accept this??!
When we got to the corner with many options, I didn't want to go the way she wanted, and she smacked my bum. But I was right, because there were loads of noisy kids on the path in a big group, and I could tell she was even more nervous than me!
We got past those ok. Then we trotted some more, and then we came to a big field. She asked me to walk in, and we walked around in a circle. I could tell she was a bit tense, so we left again. That's a shame, because it looked like a really nice place to have a bit of a happy gallop!
Then we trotted some more. Sometimes, she made me stop and stand still! I guess this was revenge for yesterday: I walked backwards lots when she tried to make me stand. I guess I should know better by now. But the woods are for trotting and walking, not for standing around!
Finally, we went the way that goes through the trees (yum!) over lots of logs. The logs are ok, but I have this bad feeling we're going to be doing more than walking in there some day soon! The trees were great, though. But this is where it got weird: she kept yelling at me for snacking (what'm I supposed to do? It's a buffet!), and then she kept lying down on my neck for some reason. She's really unwieldy: at one point, she managed to get a huge branch all tangled up with her and the reins, and it even came off the tree when I kept walking! It was a little spooky, actually, but maybe she was taking it along and planning on eating it later? Or feeding it to me?
But then she dropped it again.
Last before going home, we got to the steep parts and the bit where I always get to gallop!
The MEANIE, she made me stand still before I got to gallop!
Then we went home. And I got two carrots!
