My old boy went to a horse agility taster session with a friend on Saturday, and had a fab time - so much so, that he carted her home (I give her about four stone in weight) at a spanking trot, spooking with joy all the way, this sort of silliness normally stays with him for a few days. I rode him today, just a quicky, we are lucky to have a 30 minute around the block which is quiet lanes followed by an uphill Byway. Old boy wears boots, and today we were trying his new Easyboot Trail's out - I think he liked them! We went up that Byway like the very Devil was on our tail - flat out full on gallop, with me shouting wowowowowow like a Red Indian (yeah, I'm 44, what of it!?), and the old boy crouching low for maximum speed. Now I know that a 20 year old cob doesn't compare with a fit young blood horse, but when he puts every bit of heart and soul into speed, he feels like the fastest horse in the world to me - I love my Harl!

I love that, its the best feeling. My husband's horse is probably faster than my horse when he can be bothered, but my mare puts 110% into beating him and always does - you explain it so much more poetically!

I took my Haffy out with my friends ex racer yesterday and we headed for what we call the gallops :O) My haffy was galloping his heart out while the tb was pootling along. We eventually drew level and the tb looked at us and shot off with me and my boy chasing like his life depended on it! Amazing fun! x

there is nothing like a nice gallop up a hill, especially when they hunker down like you described, and get really smooth. your description alone made me smile.

Oh, and btw, I am 54 and i'll still yell like a Red Indian on a good uphill , all out gallop.

You have made me smile, my loan mare is no spring chicken herself and a placid soul but boy can she shift, i just need to trust myself to let go of the saddle and pick up a contact, when i get there i will love it more than i do now! I have been known to shout the odd woohoo amongst other things!

Hmm maybe I should stick to uphill gallops, that might help!
