As the title suggest we have a public right of way throught some of our fields but which we maintain to ensure all is calm and stress free for the public and us. On the other side we have a 3 private pond, private woods, and all of my haylage and grazing fields which are NOT for the public to be in at any time at all. Caught a man the other day in the pond area skulking about shouted at him to come out he ignored me so I bellowed louder and startled him he was really shifty no direct eye contact, didnt want to leave the field told him he was trespassing and trespassers would be prosecuted he got cocky then and said its a public right of way and you cant do anything by this time Im nearly going to punch him my horses are running up and down going mad at this strangers in their field I lost my temper and told him to get his a**e out of my land before I really lose my temper. Eventually got him out of the fields and told him the correct right of way and hten he said he was a wildlife photographer yeah right with the size of camera lens he had he must only be taking pictures of the grass as it didnt have a zoom lense on it which he would need etc (know a little bit about photography)so he's gone. Sunday a girl comes strolling again through out no public right of way fields and says its mother days im off to see my mum again escorted off and told your trespassing, then yesterday the same photo idiot is back again I took him to the public right of way and told him what gate to go through and wher eit goes only for him to shout what gate I could have battered him so just told him if you dont want to be arrested for trespassng then i suggest you get an OS map find out the routes and if not dont come back on here until you do know. Last straw , last night the girl who has been trespassing rings and says well since al the sheep have gone can I rent your land ARGHHHHHH I dont want any fecking sheep in I threw the last guy off ofr taking the pee and youve been trespassing and want to come on my land I have had problems with her OH before and had to get the solicitors to sort it out whay cant people listen fecken no mean exactly that. Sorry about the rant but it has anyone else has anything similar liek this if you have id love to hear from you and how you stopped it

IME there is nothing you can do to stop them. There's no public right of way across our land, but we back on to a wooded area (mostly thick brambles) of a public park - no paths in the park pass within 10ft of our boundary. however we do get people walk through our fences (literally in the case of our wooden fence in the front garden, they break it down to walk through as a short cut).

If I spot them I ask how they got in (answer through barbed wire fence or across a stream and barbed wire fence) and when they ask if they can walk through my back garden to the road I say no, they have to go back the way they came - they are the first to grumble 'but I had to climb through a barbed wire fence' Exactly why they shouldn't have gone through in the first place, we are NOT a short cut to the road.

Not quite like yours but we do get morons trying to cut through our fields, which have never had any rights of way in. Usually daughters pony goes & follows them about ( in a friendly way ) & nudges them, they try to shoo her off, other horses come over to investigate what the fuss is about, people run away. If we get them in the hay field usually take the dog over & film on my phone if they don't immediately leave, I just tell them i'm getting evidence for prosecution. Never even gone to police, people tend to leave at that point.

How about getting a blown up photocopy of as os map detailing the right of way and fixing it to either end (gate/stile) with a polite but firm note requesting that users stick to the right of way shown on the map. Mention in the note that tresspassers will be prosecuted and cross your fingers.

Failing that is it possible to fence the path off?

WE have a public foot[path running nthrough one of our paddocks. I have fenced either side of the walkway with electric fence (Warning signs attached) leaving a 10-12 ft wide pathway to be used. I haven't had any problems since doing it. :)

Im glad im not the only one but the public footpath is no where near where they are trespassing 20 acres 5 gates and 3 fences to cross before they are trespassing but it gets better last year we prosecuted an eldery man for walking down the pubic footpath dropping is pants having a poo infront of 2 of my liveries (13 years old and 10 years old) who happened to be coming back up from there ponies field he went nuts saying it was entrapment and we had no right to do this it was indecent exposure im afraid you moron. Got 2 months and a hefy fine as children where involved.

I wouldnt mind but it is very well sign posted Ive even put private land no public right of way signs 2foot x 2 foot onto a huge wooden telegraph post and it is clearly visiable and get told im infringing on there rights to ramble. I think I'll be getting a new sign ive seen it says " Trespassers will be shot - survivors will be shot again "

shotgun and large dog;) our local bridleway runs through a private estate, they have out signs up along the lines of 'shooting takes place on this land, enter at your peril' to try to deter people wandering of the path:D seems to work as i've never seen anyone in the parts they shouldn't be.
could always borrow a dairy bull and put it in one of the fields, with the warning signs up it would be the trespassers own fault if they ended up with a horn up their bum:D

Our yard is boundaried on two sides by public footpath and fields with public right of way and bisected by a (private) gallop track that links to the track/one of the fields . . . I can't count the number of walkers (mostly with dogs) who come strolling along the gallop track, between our fields, letting their dogs loose to a) wind up some of the horses who don't "do" dogs; and b) crap everywhere. If we put a gate up at the top of the gallops it will only negate its use . . . who wants to canter up a hill only to have to start pulling up two thirds of the way up b/c there's a fence/gate? The beauty of the gallop/canter track is that it levels off at the top into an open field with cross country jumps around the perimeter (courtesy of landowner and the RMA Sandhurst Draghunt) so perfect for fittening/schooling.

What makes people think that wandering about on what is clearly private land is acceptable? And pick up your dog's crap while you're at it.

P

Trespass is a civil rather than a criminal offence so you couldn't get anyone arrested and the police wouldn't be interested. Unfortunately I think that the people who trail about like this know that so threatening them with the police isn't going to bother them. Perhaps find out where they live and go walk round their garden? (After climbing over their gate or breaking down their fence first of course!) ;)
