Does anyone else use this as fly spray? I know it's not licenced for this use in the UK but I read about and peoples comments on it and thought it was worth a go. I have a Shetland with Sweetitch that I have tried most things with- the only thing that has worked in the past is a boett blanket.
Anyway have used this for a month on her- no new sores, old ones healed up, tail re growing! Actually kills the midges, no itching or rubbing!!
It is so lovely to see her out in the field with her friends rather than in an isolation paddock covered in a rug from head to foot!

Just have a little niggle in back of my head that it might be harming her in some way despite it being used all over Europe and USA.
Thoughts?
 
Tri Tec 14 contains Cypermethrin which is also the active ingredient in Deosect. Coopers fly repellant contains permethrin. Deosect and Coopers are licensed for use on horses. I have also found Deosect to be cheaper than Tri Tec 14 as you dilute it youself.
 
Yeah I use it. Wasn't so impressed to start with until I sprayed it on those midges that bite their udders one day and after a few seconds they shrivelled and dropped off dead!!

Haven't found it to be much use for sweet itch though despite spraying it on base of mane and tail. I think for better sweet itch management I am going to use the dermoline anti itch shampoo as it really works better than other shampoo's, save for more megatek and use daily and also decent fly spray :)
I will never be able to afford them both a boett blanket! Might go for a sweet itch snuggy, and settle for a lightweight fly rug on really hot days.
 
I use a Rambo sweet itch hoody, benzyl benzoate on mane and tail. Deosect fly spray for belly and inbetween back legs. I put nettex stop itch cream on her face. All this combined seems to do the trick :)
 
As I live in France I can buy tri-tec no problems. It is excellent, but expensive.

Doesn't last 7 days though! You can get away with spraying only once a day though, which is good.

It does smell, but not too badly

The main down side is the price, it us about 45€ for 750ml
 
I believe it is now licenced for use on horses in the UK,since spraying my mare daily with Tritec 14 I have not used a flyrug and she has not been bitten at all!
