Hi all,
I have a Sec C who just eats for Team GB and his Time Trials are improving by the day.
So....I took the plunge and bought a Trickle net.
Didn't make an ounce of difference. I giant slice lasted 1 hour...same as other nets inside othernets inside other nets. :(
Now this is not a 'have a go at Trickle Net' post, as it has revolutionised the other horse's hay intake who also has the Trickel Net and I couldn't be more pleased....but I have just seen the end of my tether going in the opposite direction!
Does anyone have any ideas for me?
Thank you in advance...
A desperate owner of a gluttenous C ...

That's interesting as i was just about to buy one to see if i could slow our greedy mare down. She's still in at night due to terrible weather but due to chomping huge amounts of new grass during the day, she only has a small amount of soaked hay overnight. Was hoping the trickel net would be the answer.......... definitely be interested in buying a second hand one to see if it works for her :)

How much? I think I am going to have to go down the 'trickle net inside a trickle net' route. Made no difference to my mare although she hasn't torn any holes in it so it is still going to earn its keep. Other nets have had to have bailing twine repairs within weeks and then after four months need throwing completely!

Thanks for all your replies..
Pity he is talented at the wrong thing...LOL!
I shall try the Trickle Net inside his two wee holed nets....hadn't thought of that!
If that fails...does any one know if you can ride a C with his jaws wired shut;)

Big Fuzzy was confuzzled by a trickle net for all of.. err........ half an hour

She got very cross with it, battered it, then set about killing it - and then with a lot of grunting & sighing managed to hoover hay up.
I will say that it took her an hour to demolish 2 average sections of hay from it instead of around 30mins.

We now have the trickle net over the top of a std horsehage net, with damped hay - works a bit better as lasts her around an hour for a section of hay (at present)

Mind you, she isn't impressed.... am sure I can hear hooves typing to the BHS welfare dept.............. :D

Hang the thing from a beam so he can't get it against a wall!! I do this for my sec D when he is in in the winter, works a treat. I use the elim-a -net, but will be looking at buying a trickle net for next year!

Have you tried mixing in some chopped/ short stem straw for low calorie bulk?
Do you have him in at night? do you have access to a bare paddock you could put him in?

If anyone is interested in my tickle net PM me. Its like new, been hung up in the stable for a month and its still full, so basically probably had about 10 mouth fulls out of it.
May as well sell it as its a waste of money that i cant afford sitting as a hay holder!

I can't use the trickle nets as my horse will stand for 12 hours rather than eating hay from them. It's a shame as she does need to lose a bit more weight but I can't have her standing there eating nothing all day.

I brought one for my greedy sed D mare.......well she is protesting! she attempted getting the hay out for about half an hour and then went and sulked at the back of her stable! I am hoping she is getting used to it, just like the grazing muzzle.......!! lol!!

I have the furlong anti vice nets, which have smaller holes than the trickle net, but sadly aren't made anymore.

But the shires extra fine mesh nets have similar size holes, and I have these triple netted (horse thinks I'm evil :D) but it does slow him down.

Sorry, I shouldn't do it, but this is a bit of a LOL situation TBH.

There was a thread on here a while ago bumming up how fabulous, wonderful, and "must have" the trickle nets were; and those like me who say flippen 'eck £30 is a bit steep for a haynet were shouted down by those who were obviously doing a good "sellilng" job, i.e. my trickle net is wonderful etc etc.

So its interesting to see this sort of feedback. No doubt one of the "trickle net converts" will now come on here and correct everyone, and say how wonderful theirs are and how they don't know how they managed without it!!! ;)

But basically £30 is a helluva lot of money at the best of times, particularly for a "haynet" and particularly so for something that turns out to be an expensive mistake, so I sympathise.

Was going to suggest this too - my Haffie is a very fast eater but it takes her at least 3 times as long when she has to catch the thing before she can get a mouthful!
