Trickle Net keeps breaking

Hi,

I've read through a few old threads over small hole haynets, and everything I seem to read confirms how great trickle nets are.

I finally convinced myself to buy one in November and not even 6 months down the line I've got my third hole in it.

The first time it got a hole in, Trickle Net sent me a patch repair kit which I've now used on hole 1 and 2 and hole 3 which I discovered this morning I've patched up with some twine for now.

I've previously used Elim-a-nets which don't slow my cob down, but I've had it 2 years now and she never broke it. Also tried the Shires one and that doesn't slow us down either so not really fit for the purpose I want them for. I always feed a normal net and then the trickle net is supposed to be what she can nibble on overnight because she eats her full haynet in less than 2 hours..

Has anyone else had problems with Trickle Nets breaking so often? I just hate the idea of her stood from 7pm till 6am with nothing.

I never had my trickle nets break, so not sure what could be going wring with yours? I also used two use doubled up Swedish hay nets and found they worked well. I would give them some hay on the Swedish net and some in a trickle.

She must just chew it until she's through, I'm not sure, she's never chewed through a haynet or made a hole in one in 5 years! She has her normal amount of hay in a normal net, I just wanted her to be able to eat for longer after she's finished.

My pony has a small trickle net of hay on the floor (string all threaded in) for when she has finished her normal net. She stands on it, rives at it and flings it around and thoroughly enjoys getting hay out of it. I’ve had it 4 years and it is still totally intact. I think you’ve got a fake trickle net. The real ones are very very tough.

I have 4 and they are still as-new after 7 years and very tough use, I use them as hay pillows so they get stood on and pulled about a lot in the field - used as tug of war between two cobs, flung into hedges etc. My bigger cob is usually very good at making holes in haynets (and muzzles, fencing etc - anything that comes between him and food).

Maybe they had a dud batch? I think I'd be insisting on a replacement.

I think I’m going to have to get back in touch. I’m not very good at complaining and they told me that “from time to time the nets do break” but I think 3 holes since November is a bit ridiculous. I just don’t know what she’s doing to it.

This is the first hole we got about a month after we bought it.
I bought it directly from them so no reason to believe it’s a fake unless it could still be a fake??

Mine got a hole in after a year of use. I also really hated filling it as the material was so rough on my knuckles when stuffing it. I could also never get the supposed 8kg of hay it apparently carries in it. I ended up going back to Shires greedy feeders. He gets holes in this but I don’t wince at the price of these to replace them! They are softer too so I feel kinder on teeth/lips.

I’ve got shires greedy feeders and they have holes in after only a month ☹️ I think ponies are just chewing through to get to the hay quicker & did the same on my normal haynets. So interested to hear of any super strong ones!!!

Shes never chewed through a haynet before so I wondered if it was just me, seems I’m in minority but you’re right ??
She was in training previously. I think the frustration at not being able to eat fast enough makes them more determined.
