So I have a 14.2 Welsh x TB
He's very very sharp all the time, when I got him, he came with 2 Pelham bits for riding.
So as I don't like Pelham bits, changed him to a happy mouth loose ring snaffle.

Have been told that I really should ride him in a running martingale, and probably a Wilkie.
That would give me better control.

He is very spooky all of the time, from squirells, rabbits, dogs, deer, etc.

Any thoughts comments very much appreciated.

what do you mean by sharp/spooky? what does he do?
Have you have teeth/back/tack checked and has he been scoped?

A magnesium supplement may be helpful, also groundwork, de spooking in hand in a controlled space so that he learns to trust you more. Failing that, a few lessons with an instructor can work wonders.
